I’ve previously written at length about Keith Olbermann smearing Twitter and Dan Cooper, suggesting that they, along with Fox News, conspired to defraud America by setting up a fake Twitter account in Keith’s name. As we all know by now, Keith couldn’t have done a worse job with that segment. Not only was the Twitter account legit, he actually had a second account for his show, which tweeted the very segment where he denied being a part of Twitter!! Well, Keith has finally decided to address the smear. I could explain this in detail, but I think I’ll let Keith speak for himself:
“Mr. Cooper has informed us he had nothing to do with the account.” Way to go Keith. Way to man up. I asked Dan Cooper for his reaction to the segment. Here’s Dan’s reply:
“The damage has been done. Mr. Olbermann’s choked-out legalese has not undone it.” – Dan Cooper
That really does sum it up perfectly, doesn’t it? The other part of this story that is really interesting is that both the segment where Keith names Twitter “Worst Person” and the segment where he fails to retract or apologize have been scrubbed from the MSNBC website. In fact, they edited the segment before posting online, excising only the non-retraction. (Video below the fold.)
Keith Olbermann. Made of class.
Keith’s Edited Version Of The Segment:

You can fault Olbermann for not being as contrite as he should have been over the Twitter fiasco, but you really can’t fault MSNBC for “scrubbing” the segment from the website and accusing them of editing out the non-apology.
I think you have a fundamental mis-understanding of how MSNBC posts clips from its shows. It’s standard operating procedure for MSNBC to put up the WPiTW segment with just the segment. Anything that comes after is rarely included. Furthermore, not every second of Countdown makes the web. Some segments never end up there. And this doesn’t just apply to Countdown but other programs as well.
Oh I know how they put them online. And they took the Twitter “Worst Person” down after having originally posted it. They clip the redaction but not the thanks for people praising his story about his mother?
Nope. I’m comfortable with my accusation. They act in bad faith over there.
Oh and by the way “not being as contrite as he should have been”? He didn’t even retract his accusation that Twitter doesn’t police such things. He didn’t apologize at all. In short, he acted like a scumball. Same as usual.
Congrats on the new digs, Caleb…
Good Luck, I will check back often!
Hi Caleb,
Kudos on your new blog site. I look forward to reading your side’s opinions on things.
Now where are the rules? We must have the rules. Even Cube has ‘guidelines’ on his (lol), such as it is.
Hope your blog is a huge success for you.
I still laugh every time I hear him say, “I tried to sign up last summer but abandoned the project.” WTF? It takes five seconds to register.
(a) So in other words, he tried…and failed at something so simple as registering a twitter account; (b) he considers the simplest of tasks a major project.
There is something seriously wrong with that guy.
